We took 2 teams, the A team consisting of Lauren Petty, Alec Petty, Bryce Jones, Serenity Cortez, and Daniel Dalle Luca.  Out of 6 games in the prelims, we went 2-4, winning over Loudoun County B (315-25) and Kettle Run D (165-40).  We lost to Cave Spring B, Robinson-A, Blacksburg-B, and BASIS-McLean (homeschoolers).  In the afternoon, we were regrouped and went 4-1, with wins over Eastern Montgomery A (245-155), Kettle Run - B (260-165), Virginia Episcopal School (265-95), and Ft. Defiance C (240-110). Our one loss in the afternoon was to Maggie Walker Gov. School C (180-260), so we ended up at 6 wins and 5 losses for the day.  Top scorer was Lauren Petty, a junior , ranked 39/179 in points scored with an average of 30 tossup points per game.  Her brother, Alec came in 88th with 23.3 points.  The value of this tournament is in building confidence and endurance among players, since 11 matches averaging 30 minutes each makes for a long day.  I also hope that by hearing hundreds of questions, they might remember something worthwhile that will pay off later.  The questions which are used come from the same provider that the VHSL uses, and most of the schools we play are much larger than us, including gov.. schools, private schools, and home schools.
The B team lost all of their matches but gained some valuable experience also.  Heather Smith, a junior was the top scorer for the B team with 15.8 points per game. The other players were Itsail Arellano, John McKelvey, Cassia Gainer, and Quinn Sanborn.  Overall, I think everyone enjoyed themselves and got some real competition as a preparation for regular season play coming up in 3 weeks.  I am hoping that those who could not attend on Saturday will be able to play in the Cave Spring Invitational in two weeks.
